  • Annual support to local or national offices of organizations whose stated purpose is to combat a particular disease or family of diseases
  • Funds for sponsorships for fundraising events, award events, banquets, golf outings, purchases of event tickets, etc.
  • Organizations that do not provide services to Northeast Ohio
  • Sectarian religious activity
  • Individual scholarships or grants, even if through an otherwise qualified organization
  • Endowment funds
  • Debt reduction
  • Foreign operations or expenditures
  • National fundraising campaigns or mass mailing campaigns
  • Membership in civic organizations or trade associations
Through our arts funding, the Foundation seeks to weave the arts into the fabric of NE Ohio communities to engage and inspire the people living in them. The Foundation seeks innovative ways to reach new and current audiences in a meaningful way and increase access to the arts.
Health Care
The Foundation seeks to greatly increase the prevention, survival and cure rate of Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancers through the funding of research, clinical trials, and programs. 
The Foundation seeks to fund educational programs or services that benefit a significant number of students, preschool through high school, and offer academic enrichment or support. We seek innovative ways to impact all types of learners and believe that education can happen in diverse settings and through a variety of media and methods.

Grant Guidelines

The first step in applying for funding from The Char and Chuck Fowler Family Foundation is to submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI). For each grant cycle, the LOIs that closely align with our funding focus will be invited to submit a full proposal. The Foundation typically limits awarding of grants to one per 12 month period per organization.


Proposals will be accepted from organizations based in Northeast Ohio, primarily those that have a significant impact on Cuyahoga County. Proposals from organizations located outside of NE Ohio will be considered only if invited by a Trustee. 


The Foundation cannot consider grants to individuals and generally will not consider grants for:

To be eligible for support, an organization must be:
  • Tax-exempt or operate under the fiscal sponsorship of a tax-exempt nonprofit
  • Consistent with one or more of our focus areas
  • Operated and organized so that it does not discriminate in the hiring of staff or provision of services on the basis of race, religion, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, age, national origin or disability.
